CONSERVATION PRODUCTS AND TIPS

Premier Plumbing Technology, Inc. focuses on saving customers money by conserving water and energy through "Conservation Plumbing".  Conservation plumbing consists of:

"Tankless Water Heaters"
"Low Consumption Toilets"
"Low Flow Shower Heads"
"Hot Water on Demand Systems"
"Point-of-Use Drinking Water System"

  Tankless water heaters
Tankless Water Heaters replace conventional water heaters and will produce a 40% energy savings in your home, endless hot water, and significant space savings.  Premier Plumbing is a Rinnai Authorized Dealer and specializes in the installation and repair of Rinnai Tankless Water Heaters.  Tankless water heaters produce less CO2 and NOx than conventional gas or electric water heaters.

Rinnai's are available in natural gas or propane gas and heat the water only when needed.  When water flow is detected the Rinnai begins to heat the water and will run until the water flow stops.  Then, the unit will stop running immediately therefore not using any energy.  Contrary to popular belief the Rinnai is not "instant' hot water, but it is "endless".  For more information on instant hot water see below.

A typical life span for a Rinnai is 20 years or more with proper maintenance in a residential application.  Heat exchangers have a warranty of 12 years and a 5 year warranty on electrical parts.  Premier Plumbing does not sell or service electric tankless water heaters.  However, if you don't currently have natural or propane gas in your home, we can drop a tank outside and connect the Rinnai from there.

For more information on Rinnai Tankless Hot Water Heaters go to www.rinnai.us.

Conservation Tips:

bulletSet your water heater to between 120° and 130°F.
bulletTurn off your conventional water heater when leaving home for two or more days.
bulletAdd an insulation jacket to the hot water tank and insulation on the pipes to retain heat in the system.
  Low Consumption Toilets

Toilet.jpg (3196 bytes)Low consumption toilets save water and energy by using fewer gallons of water per flush.  Before 1994, most toilets used 3.5 gallons of water per flush.  Today, 1.6 gallons per flush is recommended.  A low consumption (or low flow) toilet will use 1.28 gallons per flush and can reduce your water consumption by 20% or more.

Conservation Tips:

bulletCheck for flapper valve leaks.  Place dye in the tank and leave for 15 minutes.  When you return look into the bowl to see if there is dye color in the water.  If so, it is time for a new flapper.  A flapper valve leak can add 5-50% to the water portion of your utility bill.
bulletCheck for overflow valve leaks.  Place talc inside the tank.  If you see the powder disappear into the overflow valve, you have a leak.  An overflow valve leak can add 1-25% to the water portion of your utility bill.
bulletAvoid using caustic toilet bowl cleaners such as toilet tank tablets.  These products alter the pH of water in your toilet tank and damage plastic and rubber parts and cause severe leaks.

  low flow shower heads

showerhead.JPG (47689 bytes)Low flow shower heads provide a quality shower with good water pressure while reducing water consumption.  Low flow shower heads mix air into the water flow, which is restricted to increase the water pressure.  Shower usage accounts for almost 25% of American water usage by individuals.

Conservation Tips:

bullet

Take shorter showers.  A typical shower takes about 8 minutes and uses about 17 gallons.  An efficient shower takes about 3-4 minutes and uses 7.5 gallons.

bullet

Check for and repair leaks in the tub diverter valve.

bullet

Purchase a high-efficiency shower head, 2.5 gpm or less.  Replacing an old high flow shower head can reduce your water usage in the shower by 50%.

  Hot Water On Demand Systems

The Demand System is designed to move hot water from your water heater to your most remote fixture (kitchen, master bathroom, etc.) within seconds.  The system is usually installed under a sink.  At the push of a button, the cool water you normally let run down the drain is circulated back to the water heater through the cold water line.  These systems are expected to last 15-20 years and come with a 5-Year warranty.

This system fits right under your sink!

  point-of-use drinking water system

The GE Merlin Reverse Osmosis System passes tap water through a series of filters and membranes to reduce up to 98% of impurities.  This system is compact and fits under your sink.  It has continuous flow, so a storage tank is not necessary.  The Merlin requires no pump and no electricity.
